Eastern Narrative LLC ("Eastern Narrative", "we", "us") operates easternnarrative.com (the "Site"). This policy explains what information we collect when you visit the Site, subscribe to our seasonal letter, create a member account or contact us, and how we use it.

1. Information we collect

Information you give us. When you subscribe to our newsletter, join Friends of Eastern Narrative, fill in a contact or enquiry form, or write to us, we collect the details you provide: typically your name, email address, and anything you choose to tell us about your interests or project.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the Site collects basic technical data when you visit: IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed, time spent and referring links. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies provided by our hosting platform, Squarespace, and is used in aggregate to understand how the Site is used.

Member accounts. If you create a free member account, we store your name, email address and login details so that you can access member content.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • send you the seasonal letter and occasional updates about exhibitions, events, courses and new content, if you have subscribed

  • respond to enquiries and provide the services you ask for

  • manage member accounts and member-only content

  • understand how the Site is used and improve it

  • comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for automated decision-making.

3. Cookies

The Site uses cookies that are necessary for it to work (for example, remembering your session or your choices on the homepage) and, where you accept them, analytics cookies that help us understand visitor traffic. 4. Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers who help us run the Site and our communications, under their own privacy commitments:

  • Squarespace, which hosts the Site, processes forms and member accounts, and sends our email newsletter

  • Google Workspace, which provides our email and document storage

  • analytics providers, where enabled

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights.

5. International visitors

Eastern Narrative is based in New York, USA. If you visit the Site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

6. Your choices and rights

  • Newsletter: every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also write to us to be removed.

  • Member account: you can update your details or ask us to delete your account at any time.

  • Access, correction and deletion: you may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, California and other jurisdictions with privacy laws may have additional rights, which we will honour on request.

7. Data retention

We keep your information only as long as needed for the purposes above: subscriber details until you unsubscribe, member details until you close your account, and enquiry correspondence for a reasonable period afterwards.

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Links to other sites

The Site contains links to other websites, including those of the makers, artists and partners we feature. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
